YouTube Video: CHOOSING YARN - Alegria
In this series, Tal, Mrs Morris' daughter, will show you the yarns from Manos Del Uruguay. Manos Del Uruguay is a fantastic fairtrade company supporting women in rural Uruguay, for more details see our post of them here.
Alegría means "joy" in Spanish, and that's just what this hand-painted yarn is, a true colour celebration!
Alegría is a 4ply/fingering weight yarn, with a blend of 75% Superwash Merino, 25% Polyamide. It is perfect for so many different projects from socks to shawls as well as being ideal for baby knits as it is able to be washed in the machine on a gentle cycle. With 405m per 100g skein you will need just 1 skein for a pair of socks, 1-2 for a baby/toddler jumper and 3-6 for an adult jumper (depending on the pattern and size).
The range of colours in this hand-dyed yarn is just delicious with a mix of semi-solid colours to space-dyed variegated and some speckles. There is something to suit most tastes. When knitting larger garments or blankets it is recommended you knit with 2 skeins at once and alternate rows from each one. This reduces any colour pooling and blends any differences with the dye.
